IGF-1 LR3 and IGF-1 DES are often placed in a single performance-oriented comparison. That framing skips the first question: which construct did the experiment actually use?

LR3 refers to a long IGF-1 analogue with an amino-acid substitution and an N-terminal extension. DES refers to a shortened form lacking the first three residues of IGF-1. Those structural changes produce different expected masses and can affect interactions with IGF-binding proteins.

Why online outcome comparisons are weak

LR3 and DES are frequently ranked using anecdotes, unmatched cell experiments or vendor summaries. A valid comparison needs the same receptor system, concentration range, exposure time and endpoint. Results from one construct should not be assigned to the other because both include “IGF-1” in the label.

The safer literature workflow

Search the complete analogue name and known spelling variants. Record species, assay, binding-protein conditions and whether the paper used recombinant or synthetic material.
